Ashby Canal

 

The Rising Sun is located a very short walk from the Ashby canal towpath. Ideal for a country walk, or to sit and watch the world go by. This unspoilt canal is also a gateway into medieval times. The ridge and furrow patterns created by medieval farmers can still be seen and the canal line touches the Western edge of Bosworth Field, where Richard III met his match at the hands of Henry Tudor in 1485. The Battlefield Line Railway


Just a few minutes walk from our pub the Battlefield Line is the last remaining part of the former Ashby and Nuneaton Joint Railway which was opened in 1873. It runs from Shackerstone via Market Bosworth to Shenton in Leicestershire and is operated by the Shackerstone Railway Society. Find out what goes on here.

Bosworth Water Park is a family orientated leisure and water park set in 50 acres of glorious Warwickshire countryside. Overflowing with family fun! Twycross Zoo

World Primate Centre set in more than 80-acres with around 500 animals of almost 150 species to see, including many endangered animals and native species in the Zoo’s Nature Reserve. You can walk with ring-tailed lemurs in their walk-through enclosure, see a troop of Emperor Tamarins leap above your head in their treetop exhibit and watch Humboldt penguins take their daily walk. Keepers present regular talks and feeds where you can learn more about the animals such as the chimpanzees, Asian elephants and South American coatis. Full details here.

Stoke Golding Airfield

Stoke Golding Airfield is set amongst beautiful open countryside on the Leicestershire Warwickshire borders and has been an active airfield since its formation in the early 1960's. It is a small private airfield with a variety of interesting based aircraft. Flying happens most summer weekends when the weather is fine and you will be made welcome as a visitor.
